Every year around this time, I see posts all over social media saying “The veil is thin!” Some people swear it’s the one night a year when the spirit world is closest. Others aren’t so sure.

My personal take?

Nah… I don’t think the veil magically thins just because the calendar says October 31st.

Here’s why.

The Energy of the Season

This time of year, naturally draws us inward. The days grow shorter, the light softens, and the evenings stretch a little longer. Nature slows down and so do we.

That slowing down isn’t just physical. It’s energetic.

When life gets quieter, our energy settles. We move from that fast-paced, high-stimulation “doing” mode into a calmer, more receptive “being” state.

It’s not that some invisible curtain between worlds suddenly disappears. It’s that we shift vibrationally. Our frequency changes into stillness, presence, and awareness.

When that happens, our senses stretch beyond the physical. We start noticing what’s always been there: subtle energy, intuitive nudges, a loved one’s presence, or a gentle memory that feels like a whisper from Spirit.

Where the “Thin Veil” Idea Comes From

The belief that the veil thins on Halloween actually traces back to Samhain (pronounced Sow-in), the ancient Celtic festival that marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

During Samhain, people would light candles, gather to honor their ancestors, and set an extra place at the table to remember loved ones who had passed. They believed this was a sacred time of transition when life and death, light and dark, the seen and unseen all intertwined.

To me, that tradition isn’t about the veil changing it’s about people becoming aware. They created stillness. They turned inward. They made space to feel what’s beyond the noise of daily life.

And when we do that even now, centuries later it’s natural that we feel closer to the spirit world.

It’s Not a Veil… It’s Awareness

I think “the veil” is really just a metaphor for perception.

We live in a physical world, but we’re spiritual beings within it. When we quiet our outer world less noise, fewer distractions, softer evenings our vibration naturally shifts into a frequency where Spirit communication, intuition, and energetic awareness become easier to perceive.

So maybe the veil isn’t thinner…

Maybe we’re just finally still enough to feel what’s always been there.

That’s the beauty of this season it invites us to slow down, to reflect, to remember. And in that space of quiet awareness, the unseen world feels just a little bit closer.

A Simple Practice

If you’d like to lean into this energy, here’s something easy to try:

  • Light a candle in the evening.

  • Take a few deep breaths.

  • Think of a loved one in Spirit or simply ask, “What do I need to know right now?”

  • Sit in silence for a few moments and just notice.

No forcing. No expectations. Just being.

That’s where connection begins.

So is the veil thinner on Halloween?

Maybe not. But you might be.

And that’s where the magic really happens.
